Slow Adventure Company

Tell us about the Slow Adventure Company.

Slow Adventure Company is an independent adventure travel company for folk who prefer to unhurriedly explore the great outdoors. We specialise in crafting slow-paced, human-powered adventures in wild, natural places.

What's the story behind the company?

The Slow Adventure Company was born, quite simply, out of our love of being outdoors in the natural world, together with our passion for the simplicity of exploring places by foot or on two wheels.

True to the slow life concept, the Slow Adventure Company has taken its time to grow from a seed of an idea back in 2012, to manifesting into the small business it is today. In that time founder, Tor McIntosh, has experienced her own slow adventures: long-distance hiking in the Alps and the Pyrenees; cycle touring through France; and a very slow walk along the South West Coast Path. These self-supported experiences on foot and by bike affirmed her love of crafting personalised, handmade adventures and sealed her desire to start a bespoke adventure travel company.

How would you define ‘slow adventure’?

For us, a slow adventure focuses on the journey rather than the destination. It’s an opportunity to comfortably experience life in the outdoors, connect with nature and benefit from the simple pleasure and restorative value of exploring wild, natural places.

Slow adventurers seek out beautiful views, epic sunsets and starry skies; they choose to take the finest not the fastest route; they marvel at intimate encounters with wildlife and appreciate the time spent sitting under a tree; they yearn for peace and tranquillity; and they are curious about everything.

What’s the next step?

We’ve been busy crafting and refining a selection of Pop-up Slow Adventures in North Devon & Exmoor for 2016. These self-guided adventures on foot are for outdoorsy folk like us who want a healthy dose of fresh air living and plenty of creature comforts. Expect a mix of quality and quirky accommodation, from cosy farmhouse guesthouses to a real taste of life in the outdoors staying in a remote private bothy. Pop over to our website for more details.
